Projections for Canada, Provinces and Territories -
http://www.statcan.ca/english/ads/91-520-XPB/order.htm?cmp=0607b
Statistics
Canada is proud to present Population Projections for Canada, Provinces
and Territories, your most authoritative source for information about
Canada’s population characteristics in the coming years. You can use
Projections to:
- Assess
the needs for programs and services in the future
- Plan for
population changes
- Identify
emerging market trends
- Develop
marketing strategies
Let Projections be
your guide to Canada’s demographic landscape until 2056 for Canada and
2031 for the provinces and territories.
An
indispensable decision-support tool available in analytical report or
CD-ROM formats
The
Projections report combines three
parts to give you an overview of plausible future population trends.
- A methodology section that clearly and
simply describes the base population, the assumptions about components
of population change, the projection scenarios, and the methods used.
- An
analysis of six projection
scenarios, focusing on the growth of the Canadian population, the
sources of growth, the changing age structure of the population and its
distribution over the provinces and territories.
- An appendix containing detailed population
projection data by age group and sex and by components of population
growth both by provinces and territories for each scenario.
The Projections
CD-ROM gives you even more detailed
electronic tables in Excel files as well as the entire analytical report
in PDF format. You get:
- Population projections
by single year of age, sex and year of projection up to 2031 for the
provinces and territories, and to 2056 for all of Canada
- Thirteen scenarios,
including the six contained in the report.

website
The “About.com”
website, by The New York Times, contains all kinds of information.
However, under the section “Business and Finance”, then “Small Business”
there are various useful documents on retailing, crafts, home business,
etc. For example, under the topic “Retailing”, the article “10 Ways to
Turn Off Customers” gives good examples of what a retailer needs to do to
keep customers. Though this is an American website, the general
information is also useful to Canadian entrepreneurs.

2)
Essentials of Online Marketing
This online
article, from the E-Profits Newsletter, contains information on how to
develop an online marketing plan, descriptions of various types of online
marketing and links to websites with examples.
3)
Search Tool for Those Applying for Trade Marks
The Wares and
Services Manual database will help those applying for trade marks for
their products search for acceptable words to describe their products or
services. Providing an accurate description of their services or products
will help reduce the time it takes to process their application for a
trade mark. The alphabetical database contains everything from
“abrasives” to “x-ray technician services” and the site also includes
links to other trade mark information.
4)
Best Business Opportunities for 2007
This online article
was written by Susan Ward, an educator and business woman, who also puts
out an e-newsletter on business. She states that: “When it comes to the
best business opportunities, contradiction is the key word for 2007.
Though people will indulge themselves more, their “buying patterns will
reflect more of an emphasis on health than ever before.” So, “the same
people going out for cheesecake will be picking up more yogurt on their
way home from the gym.”

Growth
of Enterprises in Aboriginal Communities
This 28
page report highlights the economic success of five First Nations. These
community businesses use standard business practices while keeping their
traditional Aboriginal values. The bands are: Osoyoos Indian Band in BC;
Lac La Ronge Indian Band in Saskatchewan; Membertou Mi’kmaq First Nation
in Nova Scotia; Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation in Ontario;
and Vuntut Gwichin First Nation in Yukon. Although there are privately
owned businesses in Aboriginal communities, this study focuses primarily
on the activities of band-owned enterprises.
