Extension and Upgrading of Water, Sanitary, Storm Water and Roadway Services

Woodstock First Nation - Infrastructure Canada Program Project No. 6784

Project Description:

Part 1- Extension of sanitary, water, storm water and roadway services within WFN's newer residential areas.

Part 2 - Upgrading of portions of the sanitary sewer system in WFN's older residential area.

Project Components:

Water Supply System

In Newer Residential Area - Installation of 300 meters of 200 mm water main, incl. gate valves/chambers, hydrants, water service laterals, curb stops (to edge of roadway right -of-way at each lot).

Sanitary Sewer System

In Newer Residential Area - Installation of 300 meters of 200 mm sanitary sewer, incl. manholes and sanitary service laterals (to edge of roadway right-of- way at each lot).

In Older Residential Area - Replace 10 to 15 lengths of damaged 200 mm sanitary sewer pipe; re-bench/replace several existing manholes; clean an inspect specific sections of the older sanitary sewer system (i.e., root removal, video inspection, high pressure cleaning/pigging).

Storm Sewer System

In Newer Residential Area - Install 300 meters of new 450 mm storm sewer, incl. manholes, catch basins/frames, storm service laterals (to edge of roadway right-of-way at each lot).

Roadway System

In Newer Residential Area - Construct a 9 meter wide roadway to complete the street loop, incl. 20 meter wide overall right-of-way, excavation to an established sub-grade, 300 granular sub-base, 150 mm of base course and drainage swales to catch basins (both sides of roadway).

Project Communication:

Possible public announcement opportunities of this project include:

  • conducting a traditional WFN ceremony to mark the start or completion of the project;

  • placing an advertisement in a First Nation newspaper officially announcing the project start;

  • publishing an article in a First Nation newspaper describing the project and its benefits;

  • distributing a newsletter among WFN members describing the project and its benefits;

  • holding a community meeting to announce the project and its benefits.

Primary Projects Benefits:

  • provides the necessary municipal services to permit construction of 25 to 30 residential homes in the future;

  • improvements to sections of the older sanitary sewers will reduce inflow and infiltration flows entering the wastewater treatment facility, In turn, this reduces the amount of wastewater by-passing the treatment facility during high flow periods (i.e., spring thaw);

Water Storage Reservoir and Pumphouse

Woodstock First Nation - Infrastructure Canada Program Project No. 6994

Project Description:

This project consists of upgrading WFN's existing water supply system by adding a Water Storage Reservoir and Pumhouse. These components will enable extension of the water system to future residential housing developments, as well as, provide a fire protection option.

Project Components:

Water Storage Reservoir

Two (2) in-ground concrete tank (reservoir) will be located near the Eagle's Nest Gaming Facility. The reservoir will be connected to WFN's existing water distribution system and will operate to receive and store water from existing water supply wells. Sufficient water storage and pumping capacity will be provided to satisfy WFN's existing and future water demands, as well as, fire fighting flow requirements.

Pumphouse

General Features:

  • above-ground building (located adjacent to water reservoir);

  • two (2) booster pumps for domestic supply requirements;

  • one (1) fire plump (electric-driven) for fire flows;

  • power supply, electrical controls and instrumentation;

  • chlorination equipment for automated disinfection.

Project Communication:

Possible public announcement opportunities of this project include:

  • conducting a traditional WFN ceremony to mark the start or completion of the project;

  • placing an advertisement in a First Nation newspaper officially announcing the project start;

  • publishing an article in a First Nation newspaper describing the project and its benefits;

  • distributing a newsletter among WFN members describing the project and its benefits;

  • holding a community meeting to announce the project and its benefits.

Primary Projects Benefits:

  • the water storage reservoir and pumphouse components provide an essential upgrade to WFN's existing water distribution system;

  • water storage and pumphouse equipment will increase the reliability of the water supply system by maintaining adequate flow and pressure;

  • water storage will satisfy WFN's longer-term water supply and fire protection needs, for both residential and commercial developments;

  • provides for a single point of chlorine addition for disinfection purposes;

  • Provides an opportunity for water supply/distribution employment.
